A Winter’s Letter
One cold winter’s day, after school, I sat in my bedroom writing a list to Santa Claus. Sipping my hot cocoa, the lonely sound of an empty house echoed around me. I heard a clink and a swish coming from the letter chute. I ran down, tripping and nearly tumbling down the stairs. The letter was for me. My brother has been away at war for a year or so. I adore getting letters from him.
As I read the contents of the letter I was aware of the smile on my face. My brother was coming home for Christmas!
